Active, dynamic and up-to-date participation in education and scholarly activities (ex. seminars, journal clubs, grand rounds, quality improvement conferences). The Sleep Medicine physician is responsible for the supervision of assigned fellows, residents and medical students. Supervision includes review of medical records, patient care, treatment, and consultation requests. Participation in sleep medicine research and peer reviewed publications. Compliance with Sleep Medicine training program and Sleep Laboratory accreditation requirements. Compliance with VHA regulations, professional standards and ethical conduct. Establish and maintain effective harmonious relationships with other peers within the section and other services. Reports to Supervisor who is the Neurology and Sleep Medicine Section Chief with professional oversee and ultimate approval of Medical Service Chief. Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Provides patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult/or geriatric patient. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area (s).The individual must demonstrate the knowledge or the changes associated with aging and possess the ability to provide care based upon age related factors. Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy. Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set out in the computer access agreement that the employee signs.
