    Virginia Now Requiring Licensure for all Sleep Technologists

    The State of Virginia is now requiring licensure for all sleep technologists.All sleep technologists working in the state must be licensed by December 31, 2015.

    Applicants can complete theonline applicationwhich includes a nonrefundable application fee of $130.

    Application requirements as a sleep technologist includes documentation of one of the following:

    1.   Current certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists;
    2.   Documentation of the Sleep Disorders Specialist credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC-SDS); or
    3.   A professional certification or credential approved by the board from an organization or entity which is a member of the National Organization for Competency Assurance.

    *Please note that the sleep technologist must have passed an examination credentialed by the National Organization for Competency Assurance. This doesNOT INCLUDEthe RST Credential as the examination has not yet been approved by this organization. We are in the process of getting the RST exam accredited; however, we cannot guarantee accreditation of the exam by the end of 2015.
