An AAST white paper regarding The Future of Sleep Technology appears in the June 2014 Issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM). The document, which was written by AAST leadership, looks at the ongoing changes in diagnosing and treating patients and the ways new in home testing and integrated care threaten to shrink the need for sleep technologist personnel. The paper suggest new roles for sleep technologists are necessary to match the pace of these trends. Additionally, furthering sleep technologist knowledge in Core Competencies, Disease Management, Patient Education and Sleep Center Management will allow them to adjust to these new roles. The AAST Board hopes to explore new education opportunities to encourage the adaptation of sleep technologists to the current realities of Sleep Technology.
